First winner for War Trace

JUNE 16, 2010: Wattle Brae Stud resident stallion War Trace (USA) was represented by his first winner when Western Promises won a Maiden Plate over 1100 metres at Charleville in the second week of June.

A 2-year-old gelding produced by the Green Line Express (USA) mare Chaleur, Western Promises was having only his third race start, carried 55.5kgs to victory, and defeated older rivals by half a length.

Western Promises was bred by Dr B. O’Hara and is only the fourth foal of Chaleur, a winner over 1200 metres. She traces back to one of the great female families of the British Stud Book, fourth-dam Violetta being the source of many outstanding European performers including Epsom Derby winner Teenoso.

Progeny of War Trace have fetched up to $21,000 in the two years they have been offered at domestic yearling sales and can be found in the racing stables of Barry Baldwin, Helen Page and other notable Queensland-based trainers.

War Trace’s service fee for the 2010 breeding season has been set at $3,300 (inc. GST).
