Conditions
against Court
Command in the 10,000
MAY
2009: The Group 1
QTC Stradbroke Handicap
is still firmly on
the agenda of COURT
COMMAND, providing
the Eagle Farm track
races in better condition
than Doomben did for
last weekend’s
10,000.
Torrential
rain leading up to
last Saturday’s
meeting witnessed
the Brisbane Turf
Club’s
feature Group 1
sprint being staged
on a surface that
was heavily rain-affected.
While the BTC and
its ground staff
should be commended
for the successful
staging of its biggest
race meeting of each
and every season,
the track surface
unfortunately come
up much too slow
for COURT COMMAND
to show his genuine
racing ability.
Doomben
10,000 rider Zac
Purton reported that
COURT COMMAND
continually slipped
in the going due
the course of the
race and lost all
confidence when coming
under pressure
at the top of the
straight. The final
stages of the contest
witnessed the Hong
Kong-based hoop look
after his mount
in racing conditions
that proved completely
unsuitable for the
free-going sprinter.
COURT
COMMAND is expected
to have the final
race of his remarkable
career in the Stradbroke
Handicap on June
6 before returning
to Wattle Brae Stud
in preparation for
his second season
of covering. A decision
regarding the 2009
service fee of the
four-time Group winner
will be made on conclusion
of an enthralling
campaign
already memorable
for the stallion’s
Group 3 BTC Sprint
success.
