Classic
weekend for Wattle
Brae-breds
MAY
2009:
Wattle
Brae Stud bred
progeny
of Taimazov (Arg)
posted the breed’s
best-ever results
in notable 3-year-old
company when Chakvetadze
and Astro Gain
won
and placed in
Group
company respectively.
The
Group 3 GCTC Gold
Coast Guineas (1200m)
witnessed Chakvetadze
to the fore, winning
the competitive contest
in the brilliant
time of 1m08.81s.
The filly went to
post as the $4.60
second favourite and
defeated a strong
field of colts, geldings
and fillies from
all states, including
the Sydney invaders
Desuetude, Youthful
Jack and Whitefriars.
In
South Australia, Astro
Gains chased
home VRC Victoria
Derby winner Rebel
Raider to post a highly
commendable second
placing in the Group
1 SAJC South Australian
Derby. The son of Taimazov
had three-quarters
of a length to spare
over Fitoussi in third,
with the likes
of smart Melbourne
performer Larry’s
Never Late and promising
Sydney galloper
Naval
Escort finishing
in the beaten division.
Both
Chakvetadze and Astro
Gains are products
of established Wattle
Brae Stud broodmares
and have close relations
residing on the stud.
Indeed, the respective
dams of Chakvetadze
and Astro Gains were
both covered by Court
Commands in 2008.
