Wattle Brae stallions sire two QTIS Champions

Wattle Brae Stud stallions were recognized at the recent annual Queensland Racing Awards with two of the age categories being won by gallopers conceived on the historic Nobby property.

Champion QTIS 3YO of the Year proved to be Chakvetadze, a daughter of the former Wattle Brae Stud resident stallion Taimazov (Arg) from the Rustic Amber (Ire) mare Gotha. In season 2008/09, Chakvetadze won all six starts including the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas over 1200 metres.

Chakvetadze was described in the following manner in the Queensland Racing Caldendar: ‘This talented filly is yet to lose a race with six wins to her name including the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas for trainer Michael Nolan. She earned $63,000 in QTIS bonuses by winning a QTIS race towards the end of 2008 and returning to the track in March this year to win two more.’

Easy Rocking’s brilliant daughter Funtantes was voted the Champion QTIS 2YO of the Year during the same ceremony. The maternal grand-daughter of Just Awesome won four of eight juvenile starts, including the Group 2 Champagne Classic over 1200 metres at Doomben.

The official announcement concerning Funtantes read: ‘The Robert Heathcote-trained filly won a nudge under $56,000 in QTIS bonuses last season by winning three QTIS races plus placing in two. The Easy Rocking-Cantantes two-year-old also went on to win the Group 2 Champagne Classic.’
