Easy
Rocking posts major
Magic Millions result
JANUARY
2009:
Wattle Brae resident
stallion Easy
Rocking enjoyed
a major Magic Millions
success as a sire
when Pepperwood
landed an emphatic
two-length victory
in the $250,000
Marriott M.M. Stayers
Cup over 1800m.
Fresh
from a last-start
victory in the BTC
Bernborough Handicap
at Listed race level,
Pepperwood produced
a withering finish
in the home straight
to register one of
the most decisive
wins on the valuable
Southport program.
In
post race interviews,
trainer Liam Birchley
was all praise for
the 4-year-old son
of Easy Rocking. “He’s
really hit his straps
this preparation,” claimed
Birchley. “He’ll
spell now and
come
back for the
Winter
and maybe look
at
something like
the
Hollindale Cup.”
A
$36,000 yearling purchase
in 2006, Pepperwood
has now amassed over
$600,000 in earnings.
A former high-class
2- and 3-year-old,
the maternal grandson
of Woodman (USA) actually
stakes-placed as a
juvenile before
winning
the Group 3 BTC Doomben
Classic last season.
In
discussing Pepperwood’s
future plans, Birchley
also mentioned the
Group 1 BTC Doomben
Cup, a race he won
with Akhenaton as
the Brisbane foreman
of the former Billy
Mitchell stable.
